What is the 3D Secure scheme?

16 May 2022 By PAYCEC

The 3D Secure scheme is also called the card scheme, or payment processor. It refers to a part of the payment authentication system, which helps to identify and protect customers from digital fraud. Popular 3D Secure schemes and payment processors in the market nowadays are Amex, Visa, Mastercard, JCB, and Discover.

The payment processor's main job is to validate whether all the information given by customers is correct. Then the 3D Secure scheme will send an OTP to the customer’s cell phone. The customer has to have access to their registered phone number and input the OTP in the system. Unless the accurate OTP is entered, the payment will be invalid and therefore protecting customers from unauthorized transactions.
