The American Express (Amex) Platinum Card has an annual fee of $695. 1 Although the fee is only valid once a year, the math works out to about $58 per month. At the same time, the Platinum Card can provide you with over $1,500 in benefits.

Lucrative welcome bonus.
You can earn 100,000 Membership Rewards points as a new cardholder if you spend $6,000 within six months of opening your account. This generous welcome bonus is in addition to the points you earn for regular spending.
Given American Express Membership Rewards points are worth approximately 2.1 cents each, a 100,000-point welcome bonus could be worth up to $2,100 when redeemed with high-value transfer partners.
Numerous ways to earn rewards.
You can earn 5X points on flights booked directly with airlines and through American Express Travel (up to $500,000 per calendar year), 5X points on prepaid hotels booked through American Express Travel, 2X points on prepaid car rentals booked through American Express Travel, and 1X points on other purchases with this card.
In addition to the standard point-earning opportunities mentioned above, Amex Offers are available. This program offers limited-time promotions in which you can earn additional cash back or points. For example, you could get $25 off an annual subscription to HBO Max or $10 off a $50 or more purchase at Under Armour.
Flexible redemption options.
The best way to use points is to book a trip through American Express Travel or transfer points to American Express transfer partners such as Delta Air Lines and Hilton Honors. While you can use these points to pay for gift cards, statement credits, or shopping with partner sellers, the value of these exchanges varies.
Broad airport lounge access.
One of the highlights of Amex Platinum is the use of the airport lounge. While many of the best travel credit cards offer only Priority Pass Select membership, this card takes the airport lounge membership to the next level. For example, Delta Air Lines and several other lounges offer access to Amex Centurion Lounge and Delta Sky Club.
Travel credits.
Travel enthusiasts will appreciate an annual credit of up to $189 toward Clear membership. Offers expedited security screening at more than 50 domestic airports. You'll also receive a credit of up to $100 toward your TSA PreCheck or Global Entry application fee (every four years). It's worth noting that if you choose Global Entry, you'll get TSA PreCheck benefits for free.
Additionally, when booking eligible, prepaid hotel stays at Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection properties through American Express Travel, you can earn up to $200 in credits per year. You'll also receive up to $200 in annual airline fee credits for incidentals with a qualifying airline.
