When you cancel your American Express (Amex) card, any points you accumulated on that card will be forfeited. It is crucial to redeem your points before canceling your card to ensure you don't lose them.
However, you may be able to transfer your Amex Membership Rewards points to another Amex card with no annual fee, such as the Amex everyday or Amex Blue Business Plus cards, to keep your points active. You can also transfer your points to Amex's travel partners or use them to book travel through Amex's travel portal.
If you don't have another card that earns Membership Rewards points and cancel your last Membership Rewards-earning card, you will have 30 days to use your points before they expire.
It's always a good idea to check with American Express customer service or review the terms and conditions of your specific card to confirm how the cancellation may impact your reward points.
