The American Express Platinum Card®, also known as the Amex Platinum, is one of today's best travel cards — and even if you're not a frequent flyer, you can still take advantage of Platinum card benefits like Uber Cash, Equinox, Saks Fifth Avenue, The New York Times, and more. It is a premium card that provides top-tier benefits to cardholders, including an annual $200 airline fee credit — but be prepared to pay one of the industry's highest fees before you can access these elevated perks.
To apply for The Platinum Card® from American Express, you must have a good or excellent credit score of at least 700, with the average applicant receiving a 715. However, American Express has approved some applicants with credit scores as low as 643.
It's important to note that if you have previously received a bonus offer for the Amex Platinum, you won't be eligible for future offers. But those from other American Express credit cards may still be available.
Keep in mind that credit scores are not the only factor that credit card companies consider when evaluating applications. They will also consider other factors such as income, debt-to-income ratio, credit history, and other aspects of your financial profile.
Additionally, the Amex Platinum card is a premium credit card that comes with a high annual fee and many exclusive benefits, such as airport lounge access, travel credits, and concierge services. As a result, Amex may have stricter approval criteria for this card than for some of its other credit card products.
