The answer is Yes. Credit cards from American Express, Diners Club, MasterCard, and Visa are all accepted in Spain.If you have an American Express Card issued in Spain, you can use Amex Spain from another country. However, be aware of your operator's roaming fees.

What is American Express (Amex)?

American Express or Amex is a payment manager. In other words, it is an intermediary between your bank account and card. There are many payment managers (such as VISA or Mastercard), but American Express (AMEX) is the least known and least used (at least in Spain).

• Accident insurance: up to €450,000 or up to €750,000 provided the tickets paid for with your card.

• Overbooking Insurance: If you want to book a flight but cannot reserve a seat, the Overbooking Insurance covers up to 120€ for your necessities (with Gold).
• Travel Cancellation Insurance: up to a maximum of €6,000 for expenses paid with the card if you have to cancel or postpone your trip due to illness or accident or if you suffer a delay of more than 12 hours in the departure of your trip due to adverse weather conditions.
• Medical Assistance Insurance abroad: with Platinum, you are covered up to €1,000,000 for emergency medical, surgical, and hospital expenses necessary abroad due to illness or injury during your trip, provided that the tickets have been paid for in full with your card.
• Medical assistance insurance: up to €1,000,000 in the event of accident or illness during a trip, paid for with AMEX with Platinum. With Gold, it covers up to €9,000.
• Purchase protection insurance against breakage: everything you buy with AMEX is insured for 90 days against breakage or an accident... up to a maximum of €450 to €1,500 and an annual limit of up to €3,000 or €30,000 depending on your card.

1. Priority Club, access to airport lounges:

Gold and Platinum cards have this additional benefit. Only the Priority Club access and the two visits per year already cost 145€. In the VIP lounges you can relax and the best thing: eat and drink whatever you want while you wait for your flight.

1. Additional benefits only for Amex Platinum card:

They include reserved tables in prestigious restaurants that are difficult to access due to the high demand and access to exclusive events, such as meetings with top chefs, presentations, sporting events, etc.

1. Gift when you apply for an American Express:

The fee paid to have Amex was annual, and they used to give away the first year for free. Now they have changed the conditions, check their website for possible additional changes.
