Amex Travel in Australia works the same way as an online travel agency (OTA), allowing you to search for and book flights, hotels, rental cars, vacation packages, and cruises. Anyone can use Amex Travel, but the best deals and benefits are available only to American Express cardholders.

If you have a card that allows you to earn Amex Membership Rewards points, you can pay for your booking (if prepaid), an Amex card, or a combination of both. You can also earn bonus points by paying for your trip with your membership reward card.

The Amex Travel Portal is also where members of the Platinum Card, Amex Business Platinum Card, Amex Gold Card, and American Express® Business Gold Card can access The Hotel Collection to receive room upgrades and on-site credits for use in participating hotels. 

Benefits of using Amex Travel in Australia

Using American Express Travel in Australia can provide several benefits for Amex cardholders, including:

• Airline Miles and Elite Qualification Miles will continue to be earned. While you cannot earn points or elite accommodation credits when booking a hotel on Amex trips, your frequent flier number is when booking.

• Paying with a specific Amex card will earn bonus points. If you have an Amex card that earns Membership Rewards points, you can earn bonus points when booking a trip through the site. For example, a Platinum card earns 5x points for every $1 spent on airfare booked directly from Amex Travel or the airline (up to $500,000 per year), and an Amex Gold card earns 3x points unlimitedly in the same category. 

• Platinum cardholders receive a premium airfare discount. Platinum Card and Amex Business Platinum Card members can get a discount on international premium class flights through the International Aviation Program, sometimes saving hundreds of dollars per ticket.

• Book luxury hotels at Fine Hotels and Resorts and The Hotel Collection and get extra perks: Platinum cardholders can book through Fine Hotels and Resorts and receive elite benefits at participating hotels.
