Where is the CVV code on American Express (AMEX) card?

The CVV code, also known as the CID code, is a four-digit security code on the front of an American Express card. Your CVV number is not the same as your identification number or PIN. A PIN is entered on a keypad to validate in-person transactions, typically in conjunction with a chip embedded in your debit or credit card.

When making an online or over-the-phone purchase with an AMEX card, the cardholder enters the code into the appropriate field on the merchant's website or provides it to the merchant over the phone. The merchant then verifies the code with the card issuer to help ensure that the transaction is legitimate and authorized.

CVV numbers protect you by providing an extra layer of protection against someone stealing your credit card number and fraudulently using it. A website or merchant might ask for your CVV number to ensure that you have physical access to the card and aren't using a number stolen from a data breach or a photo of the card.

So, even if you use a saved card number, you may be asked to provide a CVV number when using a new shipping address. After all, since stolen credit card numbers are not typically used to send purchases to the rightful owner of that credit card, a strange address is more likely to result in a request for additional verification.
