The Amex Send Account is a stored balance (prepaid) account opened using your eligible profile information. There are no credit checks or consequences for opening this account. You can use this account to send money to any other Venmo or PayPal user. Before sending money, you must fund the Send Account with your American Express Card. And when you add money to your Send Account, it will appear on your American Express Card billing statement as a charge. The Amex Send Account Terms & Conditions govern the use of the Amex Send Account.
The Amex Send Account should not be used to pay for goods and services, and doing so violates the Amex Send Account Terms and Conditions. Only send money to friends and family members you know and trust.
Sending money from the AmEx app, you can transfer money to PayPal or Venmo customers using your AmEx card without paying the usual transaction fees. (Usually, using a credit card this way through PayPal or Venmo will incur a 3% fee.)
With an AmEx credit card, you can immediately add money to your AmEx Send account and send it to another Venmo or PayPal user. The added amount will appear on your card statement as a charge. However, you cannot receive compensation for the transaction. Terms and conditions apply.
AmEx limits the amount you can add to your AmEx Send account. The amount is identified as "addable" in the app. AmEx notes that the amount is determined by the "30-day interpersonal transaction limit" of the card in the card member agreement and is subject to AmEx approval.
To transfer money via Venmo or PayPal, add the amount to your AmEx Send account via Venmo or PayPal and proceed with the remittance as usual in the app.
Switch your payment method to your AmEx Send account to pay. The balance you send must be greater than the Venmo balance. Otherwise, the Venmo balance will be the default payment method.
